RBI Asks banks To Assess Risk Before Granting Loan

With some of the real estate companies having substantial investment in their subsidiaries, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today asked banks to assess the risk of the group as a whole while giving loans to these companies. “Some of the companies operating in the real estate sector have significant exposure in the form of advances, investments, etc. To their subsidiaries and other group or related entities,” RBI said in a notification.

In a bid to attract private investment in the housing sector, the Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to offer incentives such as single window clearance and rebate on stamp duty on land purchases to developers willing to set up new townships in the state. The state Government has set a target of attracting Rs 10,000 crore investment under its new township scheme.

Piramals Group Setting Up Second Real Estate Fund

Indiareit Fund Advisors, which is promoted by the Piramal Group, is setting up its second real estate fund with a corpus of Rs 500 crore and expects to raise the money from investors by the end of this year. The group had earlier floated Indiareit Fund, a $450-million (Rs 2,025 crore at current exchange rates) real estate fund in 2006 and the proposed new Rs 500-core fund is over and above this.
